Tennis Serve video instruction - The reasons why I
am showing this video it is not because Roger Federer is the best server or the
fastest, it is about three fundamental aspects of the tennis service that are
often neglected. 1. The ball toss - Its height has to be proportional to your
size and the maximum reach of your body and racket arm when fully extended. (Roger
is 1.85 or about 6.1 feet tall and makes contact with the ball at 2.85 meters so
he tosses the ball at least 3 meters high.)
2. Reach up for the ball -
ball contact should be made at the highest point your racket can reach on a full
stretch. 3. Spin. No matter how good of a server you are every serve and I
mean every one of them has spin on it. Roger Federer does this at all
times, therefore he gets a very high percentage of first serves in and with
it the bonus of winning a large majority of those points. In this match
against Lleyton Hewitt, Roger had won 45 out of 54 1st service points they had
played.
This video is 2.28Mbs, depending on the speed of your internet connection it
could take seconds or a minute or two, please be patient and wait.
