How to create tennis pressure?
Simple, press the pressure pedal until your opponent breaks!
Tennis at all levels but especially at the highest levels is all about pressure,
how players use it or succumb to it.
Pressure should never control your game. Easier said than done.
Here are six simple ways to learn how to create unyielding pressure that will
put your opponent in tears:
1. Listen to what your opponent says when he misses. (I can’t hit a backhand
passing shot!)
Excellent now is the time to probe and go to the net on his backhand once more.
Once you established the backhand passing is his weakness, than you have several
choices; attack his backhand until it breaks. Or wait for the key points and
attack.
2. Do not show any emotion when you miss a shot and make no negative remarks
about yourself, your opponent might be listening!
3. If there is one shot that can break down under pressure, it is the second
serve. Get inside the court and show your opponent that no matter how good his
second serve is, you are going to be all over it! And yes, spank those second
serves to the corners or deep right at your opponents feet and go to the net
behind them. Oh, yes, that second serve will crack!
4. Keep your first service percentage at 70 to 80 percent, that will shut out
your opponent from creating pressure on your second serve.
5.- Be courageous and finish your points. If it is a put away volley, go for it,
if it is a forehand winner flatten it and take no prisoners, if it is an
approach shot followed by a volley keep on moving forwards until you can finish
the volley.
6- Do not miss easy shots, use consistency as a weapon. Whatever you do, your shots are not going to land in the net or out! Make sure your opponent earns every point he wants to win.
Creating pressure on your opponent is the best way to cope with it!
