When Will The ATP Solve the Tennis Ranking Mess? |

It is getting a bit boring this discussion about the tennis rankings and who is the Nr. 1 tennis player in the world these days.
As much as I like Roger Federer's game and respect his past record, I have to be fair and I think that the ATP should give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and that is the Nr.1 ranking to Rafael Nadal!
(A little quip here, the ATP must love to be in denial)
Here we have Roger Federer Ranked Nr. 1?? (Federer, R. 686 points earned this year) with two almost meaningless (for his standards) tournament wins all year:
Estoril, Portugal
Estoril Open
International Series
Halle, Germany
Gerry Weber Open
International Series
There we have Rafael Nadal, Ranked Nr. 2 ( Nadal, R. 1055 points earned this year) who won:
Monte Carlo, Monaco
Masters Series Monte Carlo
ATP Masters Series
Barcelona, Spain Open Sabadell Atlántico 2008 International Series Gold,
Hamburg, Germany
Masters Series Hamburg
ATP Masters Series
Roland Garros, France
Roland Garros
Grand Slam
London / Queen's Club, Great Britain
The Artois Championships
International Series
Wimbledon, Great Britain
Wimbledon
Grand Slam
Canada, Canada
Rogers Cup
ATP Masters Series
There must be a logic behind the ATP ranking system and I understand how the ATP does the rankings (or do I?), but if Formula One was to rank their drivers the way tennis ranks their players, Nicky Lauda would still be the Nr. 1 today!
Does anyone think it is time for a change in the ATP ranking system? I believe it is time!
