Will Rafael Nadal be the new No 1?
The way I see it is, Roger Federer is between the wall and the abyss!
The choice is his and that can be, to take a step forward and fall into the abyss or turn around claw up that wall and go all the way to the top of the mountain like no one has ever done before! And by that I mean it literally, to leave no question marks behind in anyone's mind such as, who is the best player of all time?
Is the second proposition possible? Greatness is defined in the face of defeat!
This is a strong challenge but, I believe Roger has the mettle and he still has plenty to learn about himself and about tennis.
There are no simple solutions to achieve what I am saying, but there are several elements that Roger himself has to re-access and they are:
1. He needs to ask himself the questions: am I going to resign myself to be second fiddle to Nadal?…and emphatically say NO!
2. Do I really want to make history and be the best player of all time without the question marks?
3. Do I truly want to win Roland Garros next year?
4. Do I badly want my Wimbledon title back in 2009?
5. Do I want to win the 4 Grand Slams in a single year, next year?
6. Do I want to prepare differently with a tennis coach that I am willing to respect and follow his advice?
7. If all his other answers besides the first one, are yes, the following has to happen; Roger needs to eat humble pie and that is accept that the coaching situation this year has cost him dearly and accept that it is “mea culpa”, “mea culpa” “mea culpa”! And correct it!
8. His approach to Coaching has to change. Cheap solutions or halfway deals do not work! A fulltime Coach (not a buddy, not someone he can control, but rather someone that will be his Coach!)
9. He has to get a a real fulltime tennis coach!
10. Next, be prepared to work like never before to achieve the goals in the questions above.
This is a pretty tall order with plenty of sacrifice and hard work ahead but, well within the reach of an athlete and player such as Roger Federer or he can just choose…to give that little easy step forward and fall into the abyss!
