Can biorhythms Decide The Winner at Roland Garros? PDF Print E-mail
In this eternal search to find a reason to why things happen and how we function, humans invented the biorhythms. Many are total believers in it, while others consider it just plain hocuspoucus.

From the tennis competitive and winning edge point of view, could this be used as a factor? I have no idea! Let us explore.

Since I am open-minded (curious) and I believe one should test first, so I decided to look at one of these biorhythm websites and enter the players birthdates as requested and copy the chart results as well as the website explanation for the charts that reads:

“Explanation
Our biorhythm charts depict a range of days centered on the target day. The numbers -14, -7, +7, and +14 across the top mark dates ranging from the past to the future.

The numbers from +100% (maximum) to -100% (minimum) indicate where the rhythms are on a particular day.

In general, a rhythm at 0% is thought to have no real impact on your life, whereas a rhythm at +100% (a high) would give you an edge in that area, and a rhythm at -100% (a low) would make life more difficult in that area.

There is no particular meaning to a day on which your rhythms are all high or all low, except the obvious benefits or hindrances that these rare extremes are thought to have on your life.

The three primary biorhythm cycles are:
Emotional: This cycle tracks the stability and positive energy of your psyche and outlook on life, as well as your capacity to empathize with and build rapport with other people.

Intellectual: This cycle tracks your verbal, mathematical, symbolic, and creative abilities, as well as your capacity to apply reason and analysis to the world around you.

Physical: This cycle tracks your strength, health, and raw physical vitality.”

Trying to make sense out of this, since tennis is a sport (if you can not run you cannot win!), I considered the physical as the element of most importance, next the intellectual (mental) and finally the emotional.

So I decided to start with the quarter-final matches of the mens schedule for Tuesday the 3rd and Wednesday the 4th of June and picked-up the players birthdate info:

Rafael Nadal 3 June 1986 - Nicolas Almagro 21 August 1985
Novack Djokovic 22 May 1987 – Ernests Gulbis 30 August 1988
David Ferrer 2 April 1982 – Gael Monfils 1 September 1986
Fernando Gonzalez 29 July 1980 – Roger Federer 8 August 1981

Ernests Gulbis 30 August 1988

VS
Novak Djokovic 22 May 1987

According to these two charts, I guess there is not much to analyse, Ernests Gulbis might as well pack his bags and book his flight back to Latvia, all signs are down for him. Pity though because I expected a real battle here and Gulbis has shown his potential at the US Open 2007.
Nicolas Almagro 21 August 1985

VS
Rafael Nadal 3 June 1986
rafael-nadal-bio
Nicolas Almagro although in a slightly better position, in the emotional and mental, physically he is in the doldrums, so he might as well take some time off in Murcia, before he goes to the grass courts in England, Holland or Germany.
Roger Federer – Birthday 8 August 1981
roger-federer-bio
VS
Fernando Gonzalez 29 July 1980
fernando-gonzalez-bio
Roger Federer’s chart was a heart breaker, cruel destiny, because passing Gonzalez and the semis, Roger would have a winning chart for the final on the 8th of June! Well sorry for Roger but, on the other hand this will give him a few days to enjoy his multi-millions!
Gael Monfils 1 September 1986
gael-monfils-bio
VS
David Ferrer 2 April 1982
david-ferrer-bio
Between Gael and David it is hard to find who has an advantage, both are pretty much in negative territory with David positive in the emotional (mental), so I guess we will be seeing Monfils in the stands watching others play by Friday!

Well if this thing of the biorhythms holds any water, by looking at all the charts, on Sunday the 8th of June it would be:

Game set and match, Novak Djokovic!

Rafael Nadal will have a thousand and one forehand topspins against that!

Let us see how this develops and have fun watching, these tremendous battles ahead.

Note: Following up on the biorhythms. After looking at the actual results, the whole thing it is just a bunch of hogwash! S.C. Do tell a friend about this website it will take you just a second of your time. smile
