Very few will hit a tennis backhand slice like Tim Henman did. He embodied a dying breed of the last true attackers, with identical tactical and executional motives that prevailed in the 50's trough to our present day. My only hope is that young people will be able to see these videos of Tim Henman and get inspired to do the same and develop The ATTACK. :-) Here are the elements that make Tim Hemans backhand slice different and so dangerous: - He uses the correct grip the continental or chopper grip (like if you were holding an ax to cut wood). - The back-swing is slightly above shoulder level on his left-side but, never exaggerated to the point where the racket head almost touches his right back-shoulder. - The racket butt is lined-up with the ball. - In all clips he steps into the ball with his right foot at all times. - The racket head finish his always with full extension of his arm and ends at shoulder level.
Notice on the last clip how Tim uses the carioca step (classical attack footwork) like Yanick Noah another fantastic attacker also once did. To avoid any possible claims of authorship or copyrights, the video below was found at YouTube.
Watch Tim and Yanick Noah tennis video lessons do copy them, they were great champions and if tennis will be played in thousands of years from now, these slice backhands will still be valid.
