Tennis instruction: Roger Federer - with a backhand block return demonstrates the importance of shot selection. The return of serve (Link to Amazon.com)the return of serve and its choices can make you a great player or just average.

Sometimes we try to go for too much on our returns, here Roger Federer shows us that a backhand block return off a hard service can be very effective and in most cases the only way.

Aspects of this return to take notice:

- Roger reads early the opponents service direction

- Makes a very strong split step before moving to the ball

- Takes a very short back swing (almost none) firmly blocks the ball with a strong wrist and forearm bunting movement.
